JSW Enters Commercial EV Mobility With AMPSTAR Electric Buses and Trucks

JSW Group has entered India’s commercial electric vehicle market with the launch of AMPSTAR, the new brand from JSW Greentech Limited that will design, manufacture and sell electric buses and trucks.

Unveiled as AMPSTAR: powered by JSW, the launch marks JSW’s entry into commercial mobility and brings its electric vehicle ambitions into the heavy-duty transport segment. Alongside the vehicle, it covers charging infrastructure, operating solutions, financing options and after-sales support, so that operators can make the move to electric with confidence. Customers will be offered flexibility to specify across power configurations from 150 kW to 500 kW and choose between outright purchase, leasing, Battery as a Service (BaaS) and other ownership and operating models.

AMPSTAR vehicles will be built at India’s largest integrated EV manufacturing facility spread across 90 acres at AURIC, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, with annual capacity of 15,000 electric buses and trucks. The plant will house India’s first pre-treatment and electro-deposition (PT-ED) process for bus manufacturing, a technology widely used in advanced automotive markets, along with an automated truck-cabin line and an integrated battery ecosystem.

The vehicles are engineered in-house for Indian operating conditions. JSW Greentech has developed the base logic, software and algorithms for the entire electric drivetrain, which allows it to tailor vehicles to specific customer requirements. The vehicle’s design includes a double cooling battery system and a high strength monocoque chassis, specifically built for India’s climate and road conditions.

The thinking behind AMPSTAR goes beyond putting electric buses and trucks on Indian roads. Speaking at the launch, Sajjan Jindal, Chairman, JSW Group, positioned the move within a larger national mobility conversation, pointing to India’s dependence on imported fuel, the importance of energy security and the need to build stronger manufacturing capabilities within the country. At the same time, he stressed that the transition to electric commercial vehicles has to make economic sense for customers, with lower logistics costs and long-term operating efficiencies playing a central role.

We want AMPSTAR to be a catalyst for changing the way India moves,” said Sajjan Jindal, Chairman, JSW Group.

That customer-first approach is also reflected in the brand’s full-stack model. Parth Jindal, JSW Group, said the company spent months engaging with customers and stakeholders and found that the barriers to electric mobility extend well beyond the vehicle itself. AMPSTAR has therefore been designed around the complete customer journey, bringing together charging infrastructure, operating solutions, financing and after-sales support alongside the vehicle. The name itself combines “Amp”, drawn from Ampere and representing electric current and amplified performance, with “Star”, representing aspiration, leadership and progress.

We created a full-stack electric commercial mobility solution around the complete customer journey,” said Parth Jindal, JSW Group.

The vehicles are being developed and engineered in India, with JSW Greentech building its own drivetrain logic, software and algorithms and tailoring the technology to Indian operating and road conditions. Sumit Mittal, CEO, JSW Greentech Limited, outlined a portfolio designed to cover a broad range of commercial applications. The bus range will span 7-metre to 18-metre vehicles for staff transportation, city, intercity and school mobility, while the truck portfolio will begin with a 55-tonne tractor-trailer, with plans to expand into tippers and fixed-body dumpers in the months ahead.

We are designing, engineering and building these vehicles in India, from the ground up,” said Sumit Mittal, CEO, JSW Greentech Limited.

AMPSTAR’s Electric Buses And Heavy Trucks

AMPSTAR’s initial product portfolio is designed to cover a wide range of commercial mobility applications. On the bus side, the range will span 7-metre to 18-metre models, catering to staff transportation, city and intercity operations as well as school mobility. The truck portfolio will begin with the 55-tonne tractor-trailer showcased at the launch, with tippers and fixed-body dumpers planned as the range expands in the coming months.

The vehicles will be manufactured at JSW Greentech’s 90-acre integrated EV manufacturing facility at AURIC, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra. The plant is designed for an annual production capacity of 15,000 electric vehicles — 10,000 buses and 5,000 trucks — and will house an automated truck-cabin line, an integrated battery ecosystem and India’s first pre-treatment and electro-deposition (PT-ED) process for bus manufacturing, a technology widely used in advanced automotive markets.

JSW Greentech says the vehicles have been developed in-house for Indian road and operating conditions, with the company building the base logic, software and algorithms for the electric drivetrain itself. The vehicles will feature a double-cooling battery system and a high-strength monocoque chassis, with the underlying technology designed to allow the company to tailor vehicle configurations to specific customer requirements. Customers will also be able to specify power configurations ranging from 150 kW to 500 kW, alongside ownership and operating options including outright purchase, leasing and Battery as a Service (BaaS).

With AMPSTAR, JSW is positioning its entry into commercial mobility around more than the electric vehicle itself, bringing vehicles, charging, financing, operating solutions and after-sales support into a single ecosystem. As the company begins production of electric buses and trucks in Maharashtra, the launch sets the stage for JSW’s next chapter in India’s rapidly evolving commercial mobility landscape.
