Income Tax Act 2025: Mumbai Hosts Mega Outreach to Simplify New Tax Laws

The Income Tax Department recently organized a large-scale awareness program in Mumbai to educate citizens and professionals on the Income Tax Act, 2025. This new legislation, which officially replaced the legacy 1961 Act on April 1, 2026, marks a historic shift toward a digital-first, taxpayer-friendly India.

What is the Income Tax Act, 2025?

The new Act is designed to modernize India’s tax landscape, making it more transparent and easier to navigate. It aims to reduce the compliance burden for the common man while supporting the national vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India).

Key Highlights of the Reform:

  • Simpler Language: Removes complex legalese to make laws easier for non-experts to understand.
  • Digital-First Approach: Fully integrated with AI and digital platforms for faster processing.
  • Reduced Litigation: Clearer provisions aim to minimize disputes between taxpayers and the government.
  • Structural Lean: The Act has been streamlined to make it much easier to navigate compared to the decades-old previous framework.

Introducing Prarambh 2026 & New Digital Tools

The Mumbai event was part of Prarambh 2026, a nationwide initiative to ensure a smooth transition to the new tax regime. To assist taxpayers, two innovative tools were launched:

  • Kar Setu: An informational FAQ booklet designed as a “bridge” to help taxpayers navigate the new provisions with ease.
  • Kar Saathi: A 24/7 AI-based chatbot providing round-the-clock assistance and instant answers to tax-related queries.
