The excitement is building as the Tennis Premier League (TPL) gears up for its sixth season, now set to take place in a new and iconic location—Mumbai’s Cricket Club of India. Scheduled from December 3rd to 8th, 2024, this edition promises to be bigger and better than ever before.
The Tennis Premier League, one of India’s most celebrated sporting events, will once again host some of the brightest stars from the tennis world. Among the men, France’s Hugo Gaston (World No. 61) and India’s top player Sumit Nagal (World No. 74) are set to steal the spotlight. In the women’s draw, Poland’s Magda Linette (World No. 41) and Armenia’s Elina Avanesyan (World No. 52) are expected to be key attractions.
After five successful seasons, the TPL is quickly becoming a fan-favorite, drawing comparisons to the IPL in terms of popularity. The league features an exciting 25-point format that brings the thrill of tennis straight to the fans.
Throughout the tournament, each franchise will play five matches to secure a spot in the semi-finals. The matches between two franchises will consist of Men’s Singles, Women’s Singles, Mixed Doubles, and Men’s Doubles. With 100 points up for grabs in each match, divided across the four categories, teams will compete for a total of 500 points in the league stage. The top four teams will advance to the semi-finals.
The franchises vying for the championship include PBG Pune Jaguars, Bengal Wizards, Punjab Patriots, Hyderabad Strikers, Gujarat Panthers, Mumbai Leon Army, and the defending champions, Bengaluru SG Pipers.
TPL is not just about top-tier tennis; it’s also committed to nurturing the next generation of talent. The league has partnered with the Gujarat State Tennis Association (GSTA), Delhi Lawn Tennis Association (DLTA), and Maharashtra State Lawn Tennis Association (MSLTA) to conduct district ranking tournaments. Additionally, TPL introduced a Mobile App last year, which has now affiliated over 100 academies across India. The app connects the tennis community nationwide, enabling players to compete and track their progress.
Speaking about the upcoming season, Kunal Thakkur, Co-Founder of TPL, expressed his excitement: “Mumbai is the city of dreams, and we’re thrilled to bring world-class tennis back to this vibrant city with TPL’s sixth edition. The courts at CCI have seen some legendary matches, and we’re confident that this season’s players will add to those memories.”
Mrunal Jain, Co-Founder of TPL, added, “Tennis is one of the most-watched sports globally, and we’re proud to be associated with a venue as iconic as CCI. Mumbai’s sports fans are among the best in the world, and we’re looking forward to a season filled with thrilling matches and high-energy action.”
