Rugby India, in partnership with GMR Sports, has launched the Rugby Premier League (RPL)—the world’s first franchise-based Rugby 7s league, set to transform the landscape of Indian sport.

In a landmark step toward putting Indian rugby on the global map, the Rugby Premier League will feature six city-based franchises and host 34 high-intensity matches across 15 days. The tournament kicks off with a triple-header on June 15, ensuring fans witness all six teams in action from day one. All matches will be played at the Shahaji Raje Bhosale Sports Complex (Andheri Sports Complex) in Mumbai.

The RPL has attracted some of the biggest international names in the sport. Rugby greats like Perry Baker (USA), Scott Curry (New Zealand), Lucian Gonzalez (Argentina), Terry Kennedy (Ireland), and many others will share the field with India’s top players—chosen from a talent pool via national auction. For Indian athletes, it’s a once-in-a-generation chance to train, compete, and grow alongside Olympic legends and Rugby World Cup heroes.

Each team will be led by iconic international coaches, including Mike Friday, Ben Gollings, DJ Forbes, and Tomasi Cama, bringing with them decades of elite experience and a winning mindset.

The six teams—Mumbai Dreamers, Delhi Redz, Bengaluru Bravehearts, Chennai Bulls, Hyderabad Heroes, and Kalinga Black Tigers—will play in a double round-robin format, leading into the semifinals, a bronze playoff, and the grand finale on June 30.

With top-tier global talent, India’s best athletes, and an electrifying new format, the Rugby Premier League promises to be a sporting spectacle like no other. It’s not just a league; it’s a movement that marks India’s bold entry into the world of professional rugby.
