Miss World Participants join forces with Maharashtra, Minister of Forest and Cultural Affairs Sudhir Mungantiwar to promote ‘Save The Tiger’ cause.

The stage is set for the 112 bewitching beauty contestants of Miss World organisation who are in the city for the 71st Miss World Pageant which will be hosted in Mumbai, after nearly three decades. The contestants accompanied by Ms Julia Morley, Chairman and CEO of the Miss World Organization and Miss World Karolina Bielawska marked their presence at a gala event hosted to champion the ‘Save the Tiger’ cause which took place at Hotel Aurika Skycity.

Advocating this cause, Shri Sudhir Sachchidanand Mungantiwar, Minister for Forests, Cultural Affairs, and Fisheries in the Maharashtra Government invited the team to visit the upcoming TADOBA FESTIVAL at the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve in Chandrapur, Maharashtra. The Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve, is Maharashtra’s oldest National Park created in 1955 and home to 93 Tigers. The upcoming Tadoba Festival will be a 3-day festival scheduled from March 1 – 3, 2024 across various venues within the reserve, offering an enriching experience for the attendees.

The announcement was followed by the Prime Minister’s heartfelt message, advocating for the conservation and sustainable development of Tadoba Reserve. “The Tadoba Festival represents our collective effort to mobilize stakeholders from diverse backgrounds and ignites a passion for safeguarding our natural heritage,” said the Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi in his video message. “Through collaborative endeavours spanning various sectors, we aim to create a sustainable future where humans and wildlife coexist in harmony.

The Miss World team was enthralled by a mesmerizing performance of dancers, donning majestic tiger costumes. The captivating presentation served as a stark reminder to preserve these magnificent creatures and their habitat.

The campaign aims to shed light on the imminent threats faced by tigers due to habitat loss, poaching, and human-wildlife conflict.

Shri Sudhir Sachchidanand Mungantiwar said, “The remarkable increase in tiger numbers from 3,890 in 2016 to 5,575 in 2023, with India and Nepal leading the charge by doubling the figures, is a testament to our collective dedication to preserving these magnificent big cats. Given the global influence of the Miss World team, hosting them seemed instrumental in taking the continued success of tiger conservation global, so that they can thrive in the wild for generations to come.”

He shared, “Successful Tiger count increase is the outcome of strategies of the government promoting coexistence among the communities around forests and the wildlife. We are organizing “Tadoba Festival” in Chandrapur, the tiger capital of the world during March 1 to 3, 2024 to celebrate this success as well as to take these coexistence strategies global for conservation of our wildlife for future generations. I extend my invitation to Miss world team and contestants to visit Tadoba Festival and Tadoba Safari during the Tadoba Festival next week.

Chairman and CEO of the Miss World Organization, Ms. Julia Morley CBE stated, “As ambassadors for positive change, we are proud to be invited to a gala that advocated such a strong message. Tigers are not just symbols of beauty and strength; they are vital to maintaining the ecological balance of our planet. Being driven by purpose, we are glad to see the efforts that are ensuring a sustainable future for these iconic animals.”

The grand finale will be held on March 9, 2024 at Jio Convention Centre, Mumbai will be live streamed on Sony Liv app.
