In a groundbreaking achievement, a team of doctors led by Dr. Pavan Kumar, Cardiovascular Surgeon at Lilavati Hospital, successfully treated a 41-year-old female patient suffering from a rare and life-threatening heart condition called Multiple Aneurysms of the Sinus of Valsalva (ASOV). This is the first such procedure performed in Mumbai.
The patient, Mrs. Seema Patil, a housewife from Mumbai, had been struggling with severe breathlessness due to two large aneurysms and a leaking aortic valve. After being initially treated at another hospital, she was referred to Lilavati Hospital for life-saving treatment. Advanced imaging at Lilavati revealed the presence of two aneurysms—one in the Left Coronary Sinus of Valsalva, compressing the left coronary artery, and another in the Right Coronary Sinus of Valsalva, along with a completely leaking aortic valve.
The complex seven-hour surgery involved the simultaneous repair of both aneurysms and the replacement of the aortic valve. The procedure utilized an innovative technique to enhance the gap between the left aortic leaflet and the left ASOV, ensuring the safety of the coronary arteries and a successful outcome. Mrs. Patil made a smooth post-operative recovery and is now completely cured, with only regular medication required for post-surgery care.
In an extraordinary act of compassion, Lilavati Hospital took it upon themselves to cover the entire surgery and hospitalization cost for Mrs. Patil, ensuring that she received the life-saving treatment without financial burden.
Dr. Pavan Kumar stated, “Multiple aneurysms are rare and difficult to manage, especially when they involve the coronary arteries. Our team used advanced imaging and surgical techniques to ensure a successful outcome. This case showcases the high level of expertise and innovation available at Lilavati Hospital.”
Dr. Niraj Uttamani, Chief Operating Officer at Lilavati Hospital, added, “Lilavati Hospital continues to set new benchmarks in heart care. Our team’s expertise and dedication in treating such rare conditions offer hope to patients facing complex cardiac challenges.”
Mrs. Patil expressed her gratitude, saying, “I’m deeply grateful to Dr. Pavan Kumar and his team for saving my life. Thanks to their expertise and care, I’m recovering well and looking forward to living a healthy life again.”
The Lilavati Hospital remains committed to providing advanced cardiac care, offering life-saving treatments for complex and rare heart conditions.
