‘STEP UP ’ is an initiative by JAMM, Mumbai’s popular networking group which is keeping busy these days raising funds for a social cause. It has mothers from across the city coming together to raise funds for 730 pieces of footwear to be given to rural children as part of a hygiene drive.
These village children, ages 6 to 10, are from the Mulshi Taluka in Pune, namely Aandhale, Katarkhadak, Bahirwadi, Rhea and Kalamboli villages. JAMM has already launched rural programs which provide basic education to children but they still lacking in providing everyday requirements for these children (clothing, uniforms, books, shoes)which is not met.
Two years ago, Ritu Gorai, the owner and founder of JAMM started this networking group. It is a self proclaimed no-nonsense and complete mom-sense networking group for mothers across the city.
“I believe it is not only empowering mothers but the community at large which will help us move forward.” says Ritu. “We are celebrating 730 days of continuous enriching networking experiences and would like to mark it with 730 pieces of footwear given to rural children for whom this necessity is a luxury.”
Last year JAMM hosted ‘Happy New Hair’ where they arrange free haircuts to the underprivileged children and ‘I-Light’ providing 550 canes, dark glasses and eye check-ups for the visually impaired.
